A Deeper Look At NLP
NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming, meaning the information that travels along neurons, and across synapses in our brains that are stored in our DNA (soft tissue) as patterns, programs, or stories, which are eventually used to develop the way we communicate or speak to the world around us. This is how we “build our view of the world”.
NLP as a study is a systematic approach to shifting one’s thoughts to specific, positive and desired outcomes by utilizing tools and techniques to catch negative thought patterns in the subconscious mind, and bring awareness to them in the conscious mind, thereby shifting them instantaneously and storing more positive, powerful programs for forward progress.
As an extension to being able to successfully shift one’s thoughts for positive results, NLP can therefore also be used to effectively assist individuals who are ready to overcome lifelong habits. If the desire is there for a new state, NLP techniques can facilitate a client’s desire to completely free them of habits that have been with them for years, leading to a new sense of self and freedom.
Since NLP is about shifting thought patterns for positive results, it also incorporates the study of the structure of subjective experience. Given that we are constantly presented with opportunities to choose how we think and feel about any/all experiences, we tend to pattern our behaviors around those choices, creating comfort zones. While comfortable, those zones may not be so helpful to our forward progress anymore.
